I always wanted to enter a 48-Hour Film Challenge. After 5 years of waiting someone said - do it your self. So in 2006 I ran and entered the first ever DVMISSION 48-Hour Film Challenge. And so it began…
The first challenge had 8 teams enter and 6 teams finish. The second challenge had 16 teams enter and 16 finished. This year 23 teams entered and 22 made it to the finish line.
When I organised the first DV-MISSION I was surprised at the professional level of the equipment used. For example DV cameras that cost in excess of £1000. For this reason I made a specific category for Pro-Tech and Low-Tech equipment. Pro-Tech means:
DV cameras that cost in excess of £500.
External sound recording equipment that costs in excess of £200.
Lighting that costs in excess of £100.
Note: This does not mean amateur or professional. Everyone is welcome to enter from beginners with mobile phone cameras, to professionals who want to make a broadcast quality film! Pro-Tech and Lo-Tech means what equipment you use, not your ability! We welcome professional filmmakers who use Lo-tech equipment. We welcome beginners who have access to expensive kit.
If the idea of writing, storyboarding, filming, editing, adding sound and rendering a whole movie in 48 hours sounds crazy, then you're right. This is an endurance test of both human and machine.
Thanks to everyone for taking on this year’s challenge. The standard was incredible! I am still stunned by your talent, enthusiasm and creativity. It was a very special Premier Night, which was made all the better by all the team’s ‘Spirit of DVMISSION’.
DVMISSION need your help. We need people to help us think up crazy new ideas, rethink what works and what doesn’t. If you have something that is niggling you, let me know. This is the ideas box for the 2009 challenge.
What awards shall we have this year?
In 2008 there were 9 awards. What award categories would you choose for 2009, and why?
Bend the rules…. Or break them entirely?
Last year half the films were a few seconds over 2 minutes. Half the films were not strictly a B-Movie. Is this fu… Continue
DVMISSION are very proud to announce that both Screen South and Film Hampshire have agreed to sponsor the 48-Hour Film Challenge again this year. We at DVCITY are very grateful.
Hi Jinx.
I'm really sorry, but we have to pull our team out. We've been left with only two of us making and no actors at short notice, and while we would look forward to the challenge, we have a lot of other stuff on, and the recent change of more people pulling out from our team has confirmed that we should pull out.
I hope this is okay and won't cause any problems for you!
Dear Jinx,
2 scribes film equipment is way more expensive than the low tech category. At the time we entered I never imagined how much help would come our way. Can we up grade and how would we do it?
Cheers

Hi Jinx, There's been another change to our team as someone has had to pull out, there's now just two of us in our team, myself and Alice Porter. Thanks.

I am not getting an email to tell me when there are responses to my comments in the think tank...I have clicked to say I want to follow discussion - but its not happening.
Also when I do go to reply the previous discussion gets reset - as with the repeat of Roys essay on genre.
help please

My team has changed since I registered. I need to change team member names and preferably the team title. Is that possible?
